    Mark,

I know you love Chicago as do I. And here is a track they just released from 1971. Saturday in the Park recorded before the studio version. This is the first time it was played live and with Peter Cetera singing lead vocal instead of Robert Lamm. Also on this release is Dialogue but with Terry and Robert trading vocals instead of Peter and Terry. https://open.spotify.com/track/3EDIx7vkN0fNm3o8NZzgz1?si=mhO7-gqUTAiyNnXuAE0xkw&context=spotify%3Aalbum%3A4rwZAclbsuCw7pS1cz9oDg

Mark – I love your show. Especially when you talk about “the music “. I first heard the song Urgent on your podcast a couple of years ago and had to add it to my playlist. Then you bring it up again regarding Jr Walker – always giving us great info. My fave by him and his band is “What does it take (to win your love). I also love Eleni’s song that you play at the beginning of every podcast. Her and Matt are so talented. I do hope your house is okay in NC and that you and Lynda are okay. Hugs, gloria

Hi Jenny, this is alarming! We DO NOT have a website with merch for sale. I repeat, Mark has NO merch for sale online or anywhere at this time.

    Mark,
First time, long time. My wife and I came to your last M&B visit to Portland, OR. You may remember me, I was the 5’10” white guy with the pretty wife who said how much your show means to him.

“The Secret She Kept for 28 Years” hit me hard and has prompted me to write this word of caution far anyone thinking of getting their DNA done for genealogy purposes. At my wife’s suggestion we submitted our DNA to Ancestry.com. My results were as expected, my wife’s were not. She found out her Dad of ~45 years was not her dad. When confronted by this revelation, her mother simply said, “I was no saint when I was younger and don’t know who your real father is.”

This didn’t bother my wife too much at the time, but a few years later another customer of Ancestry.com reached out to her as she was searching for her grandfather and Ancestry said they were second cousins. My wife said she didn’t know how they were related as she didn’t know who her real father was. The other Ancestry customer provided a possible surname and in the interest of helping this other person put, my wife asked her mother if the name meant anything to her.

My wife’s mother became enraged that my wife was “looking for her father” and insisted she had no idea who he was. Within 24 hours of that, my wife’s uncle spilled the family secret and my wife now knew the name of her biological father even though she wasn’t looking for him. My wife wasn’t born out of a trauma such as rape or incest, it was a consensual relationship with a pig of a married man.

Curiosity being what it is she quickly found out she has 4 half siblings she never knew she had. She came to the realization that who she thought was her full blood brother was only a half brother. All of her aunts and uncles on both sides had known the family secret and she projected back to how she had been treated all these years as the literal red-headed step-child. She’d been lied to for almost 50 years.

My wife’s drinking became worse than it already was. Two years ago, after a heavy night of her solo drinking, she accused me of admitting to having multiple affairs. Despite there being no evidence of any infidelity on my part she insisted the conversation happened. I even went as far as taking a polygraph test to prove I have always been faithful. After 4 months of struggling through my marriage falling apart and her constant drinking, she started having other thoughts. She felt we were being watched by the FBI, that our water supply had been poisoned, that there were cameras and listening devices in our home, the list goes on and on.

It took a year before she was diagnosed with Delusional Disorder. She continues to drink and won’t get treatment. She continues to accuse me of being unfaithful and she continues to suffer from paranoia. I believe the alcohol abuse and trauma of her parents and family lying to her for almost 50 years have completely shattered her trust in everything and everybody. With treatment and sobriety, she could be living a more manageable life. After 24 years of marriage, I struggle with my vow of “in sickness and in health”. We continue to live in the same house and I tell her I love her everyday, but it’s not reciprocated. I miss my wife and our grown children miss their mother.

I can say that therapy and friends/family have helped me navigate through this as best as possible. It’s times like these that you find out who your true friends are and if anyone is struggling with anything, make the effort to call for help. You may not get problem solving answers, as I have not, but you have a great chance of being talked down from the ledge to live another day.

As a closing comment, I would suggest we leave the ancestry secrets of previous generations alone. Of course there are positive life altering outcomes, but you are rolling the dice that you may trigger negative life altering outcomes as well.

Thanks for being there all these years, Mark and Linda. Best wishes to you and yours.

    James

Mark thank you for your continuing of the weekly podcasts! Hearing your voice is very soothing. You have helped get me thru a lot of emotional events! I loved the Danny show. You should have him on regularly for a segment. You sound great together, Katie as well. I do miss Lynda, she was great on the show! (My favorite “the balloon people” 😂)
