Mark Bridge Over Troubled Water always reminds me of One of my most poignant memories of the M & B show. Luther had just passed & although this isn’t one of your favorite songs it played in the background of you talking about your father. At on point you became speechless & the music swelled & they went to break…. I’ll never ever forget that… Ill understand if you don’t read this on the air. I just had to tell you though…
Loved hearing Gina Its always good to hear you talk to old radio friends. After listening I found your interview on the Woody show That was a great show Good to hear Sammy Where her fingers salty when she shoved them in your mouth to keep you from talking? And who the fuck is this Woody? I never heard of him. Whats his background in radio.
Shamahoorn?…. Shamuhhorn? who the hell is Shamyhorn (from the Paul Harvey comment last week)? My name is Scamahorn (sounds exactly how it’s spelled). This is going to sting a little bit….like ripping off a BandAid from your hairy ass… Lynda always got it right for my birthday. I told you it was going to sting but I can’t help that the small brain can read!
Now I wish I could say I expect more from the Oh Gee Radio God but God Damn I Fucking Love Your Show!!! Learn to read fucker… Sorry a little harsh, I’ll tone it down a bit… You’re old enough to know how to read right?
Last week during a business trip I was stuck on I-40 near Williams, AZ for 10-HOURS due to a snowstorm and accident. Listening to your podcast helped pass the time. Thanks, man.
I turn 46 on March 23. Birthday shout-out request.
Hi Mark,
Regarding ‘to pee or not to pee’ in the shower, let me first apologize for being a nerdy engineer. My house plumbing is likely the same as in many houses. The master bath’s shower drain and toilet are roughly 7-feet apart. Down below in the utility room the shower drain and toilet drain pipes MERGE before exiting the house. So I have to ask, “What the hell is the difference!?” Pee away people!
Hey Marky Mark, Luv ya. Now that he butt kissing is outta the way, I wonder have you heard the rumours of a new Van Halen album coming from the Van Helen vaults with some help from Alex Van Helen and Steve Lukather? Can you get Steve Lukather on the phone and if so can you record that phone call so your loyal fans can hear it?
While the early Monkees songs limited the band members to vocals only, with studio musicians providing the instrumental portion, the four guys revolted at the micromanagement of Don Kirschner. After that, they performed all their own instruments and vocals.
Prior to the Monkees, Micky had his own band, Micky and the One Nighters. They recorded two 45’s that went unreleased until the success of The Monkees.
Davy Jones was nominated for a Tony award for his performance as the Artful Dodger in the musical Oliver! in the West End in London and on Broadway. He also released a solo self-titled album in 1965, the year before being cast in The Monkees.
Both Micky and Davy had acting careers before The Monkees.
Mike Nesmith played with several bands in the San Antonio area before moving to Los Angeles. He was the Hootmaster on Hootenanny nights at the Troubador. He also wrote songs, many performed by The Monkees, but also was known as the composer of “Different Drum” for Linda Ronstadt.
Peter Tork was a multi-instrumentalist. He got his break with The Monkees when friend Steven Stills was rejected in his audition for having bad teeth. He recommended Peter, and an audition was set up. He started studying piano at age 9, and went on to learn guitar, bass, and banjo.
So, they weren’t real musicians? I dunno. Sounds like a good topic for a Cool Stories in Music!

RG: I am thinking Hackman’s kids didn’t call very often because he didn’t remember them and they counted on his wife to call them if he had an issue.
